About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Humberto or Bert for short. I am a first-generation college graduate from Dallas, Texas and I am interested in transnational media. I have always been fond of the monster, kaiju, and tokusatsu genres, watching characters like Godzilla and Ultraman since I could remember. I have always been interested in how different nations and cultures interpret the monster movie genre. Sometimes they would be fun action movies for entertainment, and other times they were thought-provoking allegories to real-world issues. From time to time, I write my own little monster stories that I hope to make illustrations of as soon as I learn how to draw. I am also a huge sports fan and gamer.

Project Description

Godzilla is a monster movie film franchise where the titular character is a metaphor for nuclear energy. This project will look at the differences between the Japanese and U.S versions exploring the geopolitics of nuclear energy. In addition, the cultural, social, and national differences of the films will be explored.

What are you most looking forward to after the pandemic?

I really wanted to get into making short experimental films and skits. Now with the pandemic hopefully coming to an end (PLEASE!!!), I want to go full force. Also probably getting a gym membership because I gained quite a bit of weight during the pandemic.

What’s on your music playlist?

Talk about a little bit everything. Want to jam out, I got Metallica, Ghost, and Disturbed. Want to mellow out and chill, I got Fm 84 and The Midnight. How about international music? I have J-pop like Perfume and Hikaru Utada. Want to listen to Spanish music, I have Caifanes and Héroes del Silencio. The only thing I probably don`t have is Country music, with the exception being Johnny Cash.
